about
The boy singing lost his friend in the aftermath of discovering their love for eachother. It’s a same sex relationship. They are very young and they are surrounded by “an anxious taste” meaning that people around them are not accepting the nature of their sexuality. The singer internalized this hate and ghosts his friend partly leading to his suicide. The singer tries to forgive himself by remembering that his own brother forgives him and tells him that it is not his fault.
lyrics
Now I know what it is that you
Mean to me
Your smile turned me into vapor
By the arcade sea
And those who danced around us mad
Guarding visions of
An anxious taste, I can’t relate
Even to myself
Graceful tunes on your sheets in june
How could I hate you so?
Now you’re not, oh God I sought
To let you go
And now you’re not, you left us all
I’m tied in a knot
Forgive me please, my brother sees
He forgives me soon
Boy, I know what it is that you
Mean to me
Your smile turned me into vapor
By the arcade sea
And now you’re not, you left us all
I’m tied in a knot
Forgive me please, my brother sees
He forgives me soon
Before the harvest moon
